William Saunders died while a prisoner of war but as yet there is no further information about his death. It is not known when he was captured nor if he died ftrom wounds or from illness. The 4th Middlesex battalion was part of 8 Brigade, 3rd Division that had been on the Western Front since the sart of the war in August, 1914.
